JetBlue Flight Booking Cancelled Over Holiday Weekend Amid COVID-19
Loveleena Ghai | December 30, 2021
● Hundreds of flights got canceled by United,
Delta, and JetBlue Airlines due to
the Omicron variant of the COVID.
● Over the weekend, about 10% of JetBlue's
flights got canceled, affecting the weekend plans of many.
● As the COVID-fueled crew crisis threatens to
linger until New Year's Eve, JetBlue
airlines are cancelling more flights.
Omicron Hits Travel Plans
Due to the Covid
Crisis, JetBlue Airlines flight bookings
are getting revoked. The pandemic appears to be wreaking havoc on the travel
industry once more. JetBlue
suspended almost 10% of its total flights and experienced 32% delays over the
Christmas weekend, causing holiday celebrations to get disrupted. Not only JetBlue Airlines, Delta and United
Airlines express that the omicron variant was driving staffing issues, which
resulted in flight cancellations. The airlines continue to see a shortage of
staff which is causing suspensions, and it's unclear when normal operations
will resume.
JetBlue Airlines explaining the reason behind the shortage said that the
omicron variant of Covid is the only reason behind cancellations of holiday
season flights. The new variant is not only affecting business, but it is also
frightening visitors away from becoming infected with a new wave of the
Coronavirus.
JetBlue Confirms Cancellations
JetBlue
cancelled around 66 flights across the network during the Christmas weekend and
is likely to see more cancellations as they receive more sick calls due to the
Omicron variant. It has probably suspended 18 flights at Logan, accounting for
roughly half of the airport's 39 cancelled flights.
When To Make JetBlue Flight Bookings?
Christmas and New
Year's are always busy travel weeks. But, as the omicron variant ravages
airline staffing levels, JetBlue ended
up cancelling most of its fights. Customers are furious to know when to make a JetBlue flight booking?
According to
FlightAware, more than 1,300 flights altogether with JetBlue Airlines, with at least one layover in the United States
and more than twice as many in the entire world, have been cancelled during the
Christmas and New Year weekends. Furthermore, despite the fast spread of the
omicron variant and the airline's staffing shortfall, cancellations were likely
to persist, causing extensive disruptions during one of the peak travel seasons
of the year. Passengers who want to travel and are willing to make JetBlue flight bookings should probably
avoid doing so because they might end up scrapping the program later.
What Is The Cancellation Policy Of JetBlue?
JetBlue Airlines understands the situation where plans can change, and
you may end up cancelling or changing your flight bookings. Considering this
part, JetBlue let their travellers
change/cancel their flight reservations without charging a fee.
Except for JetBlue's Basic economy flight booking, most
flight fares do not include any change or cancellation penalties. But, seeing
the pandemic hit, JetBlue Basic bookings
made between August 25 and October 31, 2021, and before June 7, 2021, are
exempt from change/cancellation fees.
Any bookings made between
June 8 and August 24, 2021, and after November 1, 2021, are subject to a $100
change/cancellation fee for travel entirely inside the United States, the
Caribbean, Mexico, or Central America and $200 for all other routes. The fare
differential and the tariff rules for the date of the change in JetBlue flight bookings are applicable.
Furthermore, JetBlue's cancellation policies are
more like several other airlines. If you have made a JetBlue flight booking within seven days or more before the scheduled
departure date, you can cancel it within 24 hours of making the reservation
without getting charged a cancellation fee. Once you've made changes to your
existing JetBlue flight booking, you
will not be eligible to claim the refund to the original mode of payment. You
may have to bear the cancellation fee, even if you make changes/cancellations
in less than 24 hours after the booking.
